von Schlippenbach / Prévost Tour

Alex von Schlippenbach

German pianist Alex von Schlippenbach and British percussionist Eddie Prévost are among the most significant figures in modern European music. Having laid the foundations of the European improvised avant garde, founding two of the most significant and long-lived groups in Europe, Prévost working with AMM since 1965 and Schlippenbach leading his eponymous trio from 1970, these two musicians - who tour the UK together this coming March - have gone on to build, extend, maintain and refine unique, sonic schools drawing on elements of jazz, avant-garde composition indeterminacy and above all their own power and energy for invention.

Despite being central and vital musical forces whose paths have crossed since the 1970s and having a close mutual musical link in saxophonist Evan Parker this four concert tour marks the first playing colaboration of Prévost and Schlippenbach. Appearing variously solo, as a duo and for three dates joined by Canadian bassist Joe Williamson and British saxophonist Alan Wilkinson, two of Prevost’s regular partners, this tour promises a journey with a genuinely new music.

That such a colaboration can be is itself testament to the way both Prévost and Schlippenbach continue to set themselves new musical challenges and explore music’s past, present and future.
